If you've had 10 or more blood transfusions, you are at risk for iron overload, which may lead to serious health problems. The easiest way to find out your iron level is with a simple blood test called a serum ferritin test. If your iron level continues to be over 1000 mcg/L (micrograms per liter), you have iron overload.
